Hockey: Stars shut out Ice Bears
The Brookfield Stars scored early and often against the West Bend Ice Bears Jan. 20, winning 4-0.
Michael Murtos got the Stars on the board with a goal 1:38 into the game, with assists by Michael Chavez and Brendon McKnight. McKnight then doubled the score with a power play goal at the 1:13 mar, with assists from Braden Kloida and Nathan Rozman.
After no goals in the second period, Riley Cassada added to the Stars lead with a goal at the 4:02 mark, with assists from Zach Davis and Jared Christensen. Chavez finished the scoring with a goal at the 14:58 mark of the third period, with Rozman providing the assist.
Emmett Peter recorded 29 saves for the Stars while the Ice Bears Chris Clement recorded 21 saves. The Stars improved their record to 5-12-1 while the Ice Bears dropped to 12-7
The Stars were to host Kenosha Jan. 25 before hosting Fox Citiies at 6:45 p.m. Jan. 27. West Bend was to play against Whitefish Bay Jan. 26 at the MSOE Kern Center and at Beaver Dam Jan. 30.
The Stars team is a co-op between the Elmbrook, Menomonee Falls, Hamilton and Wauwatosa school districts and Catholic Memorial High School. The Ice Bears team is a co-op between the West Bend, Grafton, Port Washington, Slinger and Germantown school districts.
